Aid and Comfort to the Enemy

The Book

Published in 2010 by Artbook Press, Aid and Comfort to the Enemy chronicles the experience of the 934th FST’s remarkable journey into and through Iraq during the first and second phases of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Through photographs, diary entries and personal narrative the unit’s orthopedic surgeon provides an intimate view of the lives and events of the early, conventional stage of the war while examining issues of morality, patriotism and duty.

Diary entries are candid and visceral. The book brings the reader along on dangerous convoy operations, into the surgical tent, into private homes, and into the camp of a terrorist group, the People’s Mujahedin of Iran (MEK).

The book was edited by Tim Hill, an acclaimed book editor who edited Ansel Adams’ Yosemite and the Range of Light.

Thanks for the book and thanks for your dedication and service to the nation and our troops. All the best.
— Secretary Colin L. Powell, Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
I just finished Aid and Comfort to the Enemy and found it to be a clear and concise view of war and service. It’s a remarkable book, beautiful to look at, powerful photography and deeply moving.
— Steve Miller, musician
A beautiful look at humanity and the people most affected by battles in a foreign country.
— Trent Beattie
Most of us do not experience war at the level that Tim Floyd did. To be a healer in one of the most difficult of circumstances and then to share it with us in such a moving way is a rare view. Tim’s compassionate heart and dedication come through every page. His pictures are, as they say, worth a thousand words. Thank you Tim for recounting your experience and more importantly for your service.
